Sherri is a Detroit based artist who works out of the PASC Detroit studio. When asked what inspires her artwork Sherrie says "I was born in Detroit, and my family is from here too. I like to work here because I was born here, and I live here. I've been drawing since I was little. I like to work with many colors. I draw lots of things, flowers, bubbles, faces and shapes. I create lots of things, and I just want to create more. I keep challenging myself to do things differently." Her work is intricate and detailed involving colorful shapes, symbols and text, integrated into her artworks, reminiscent landscapes or maps.

In addition to several PASC exhibitions, her artworks have been exhibited at the University of Michigan’s Institute for the Humanities Gallery, Ann Arbor, MI (2025); Signal-Return, Detroit, MI (2024); PASC Detroit Gallery, Detroit, MI (2024); Art Gallery at Westland City Hall, Westland, MI, (2024); Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Detroit, MI (2022/24); Art Space 200, University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, MI; Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Detroit, MI; Art Gallery at Westland City Hall, Westland, MI; The Scarab Club, Detroit, MI. Her artwork is a part of the permanent collection at the Cranbrook Art Museum (Bloomfield Hills, MI) and the Kresge Foundation (Detroit, MI).

PASC

PROGRESSIVE ART STUDIO COLLECTIVE

DETROIT, MI

WEBSITE
  • PASC was launched in January 2021 as the first and only progressive art and design studio, and exhibition program, in Detroit and Wayne County, dedicated to supporting artists with developmental disabilities and/or mental health differences to advance independent artistic practices and build individual career paths in the art and design fields. PASC runs three studios in Detroit, Southgate and Westland, Michigan and works with over 190 artists with disabilities weekly.

PASC uses a progressive art studio structure*, an effective participant-driven model adopted by many disability art programs across the United States, to encourage participants to develop their own independent art practices. Artists work with a staff of peer practicing artists and curators who offer advice, expertise and encouragement, to aid our artists in their artistic career paths.

    * For more on progressive art studios visit Disparate Minds.

PASC is a program of Services to Enhance Potential (STEP) a non-profit service organization, founded in 1972, that provides services and supports for 1300+ individuals with disabilities and mental health differences in Southeastern Michigan. STEP’s mission is to support individuals in the pursuit of their chosen goals and to achieve personal satisfaction in their lives.

PASC has been supported with grants from Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan (CFSEM),  Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the Michigan Arts and Culture Council (MACC). As well as donations for foundations and individuals.
